La Reserva Golf Course
La Reserva Golf is without doubt the latest jewel in the crown for visitors to Sotogrande and the Costa del Sol, Spain.
This new private and exclusive golf club is situated in a unique area with magnificent views of the Mediterranean Sea, surrounding mountains and the Costa del Sol Golf.
This 18-hole golf course was designed by Cabell B. Robinson and only opened in 2004 but it already has maturity that exceeds expectations. The course is situated in two valleys, which join in the form of the letter "Y".
The golf course is relatively long and measures just over 6,700 metres from the back tees and such an overall length was desirable in order for the course to have the option of hosting major international tournaments in the future. More importantly, for the ordinary golfer there are two forward men's and ladies tees that should enable all classes of golfers to enjoy their round.
Water hazards are a feature of La Reserva Golf and are found on six holes but only in one instance is there a frontal hazard. The course designer was more interested in protecting the pins and therefore has allowed more conservative approaches that take the hazard out of play. The greens are really the heart of the course being relatively large to provide bigger targets for the average player. However, to be on the green in regulation is one thing but to be on the right part is another. Beware the long putt on these greens!
In time, there is no doubt that La Reserva Golf Course will be considered one of Europe's premier courses and eventually accommodate an International competition.
