Monte Mayor Golf Course
Monte Mayor Golf is considered one of the most spectacular golf courses on the Costa del Sol Golf and indeed Spain. With the course nestling in the mountains of Benahavis it can boast of wonderful views of the Costa del Sol, Mediterranean, Gibraltar and on a clear day the African coastline.
The golf course features a challenging layout over mountainous terrain and was designed by Jose Garcedo and opened in 1992. It welcomes all standards of golfer but is more hospitable to the accurate one rather than the wayward one.
The fairways are undulating but are always in superb condition along with the sloping greens that are also of high quality. The layout offers a good mixture of holes with several tees on raised platforms with waterfalls and rivers adorning the course.
As with most courses constructed in a confined area the holes need to be designed to get maximum distance and difficulty and the par 3's are very impressive here in that respect. You cannot help being impressed with the design and condition of the course even if you may find it demanding in places. Before you start your round make sure you are aware of all the local rules as they will differ considerably from those you will normally be associated with. It is not every day you get a free drop if you miss the fairway.
The clubhouse offers the normal bar, restaurant and changing facilities and there is a practice area and putting green. You will find the buggies are offered as part and parcel of the green fee and you are recommended to use them even if you are the fittest of the fittest.
